I nearly died this morning....

Driving down the highway, just like any other morning.....
I was faced with a situation that every driver fears, but few have had to face....

Somehow I managed to get through it... I lived to blog this... someone up there must care about me...

There, in my lane...
sitting pretty... like an evil, car crashing, yellow flower of death ...

was a BANANA skin.
I have a copy of a photo of an actual re-enactment of a simulation of the banana (not his real name).

Turns out some maniac tradesman had been throwing them out of his car screaming something in Italian..


(the real story - as I was driving to work today, I drove over banana skin... I thought it was funny....)

Happy July 4

To anyone who is basking in the sun, sitting beside a pool, eating enormous amounts of BBQ, or even manning a fireworks stand... have a great holiday....

July 4th on this side of the world for me involved a long drive (without any food or a SINGLE COFFEE!!!) to get a whole heap of medical tests done before heading off overseas again...
I also got to pretend I was a pin cushion with the number of injections I got.

your thoughts..?...

Spent the day cutting down trees at my sister's place today... great fun, hard work separated by trying to work out how to drop trees on her little block and not on the houses next door!... a little tired...  but I have a question....

I am thinking that while I am spending months and months away in China this year, that I should use the time a little productively and do and MBA at the time....

what do you think?

Too much SUN!!!

Starting to be Autumny here... so just starting to get a little cooler...
I am at my favourite position outside my favourite coffee shop, and have been working pretty well...  just completed a document I have been working on.....
BUT - because of the change in season, the sun has changed position...  so now it is hitting me full in the face...

I know that it might conceivably be possible for me to sit in another position... but gosh darn it.. this is my spot!!!

I am forced to conclude that despite what I might think, this is absolute proof that the universe does not revolve around me.... who woulda thunk it?

Now - if you will excuse me.. I think I need to go and have a headache now.

From doing a little talk at the University here.... I am convincing young engineering students that they have done the right thing by choosing engineering by telling them about my exciting career......

Been sitting waiting for a police officer to take my fingerprints. I
hope I have not been bad in my sleep cause this search will show it

I remember doing similar waiting to get my photograph at the Louisiana

Evanescence and night time...

not necessarily a good mix.... but nonetheless I went for a little night walk with my camera and my iphone...

I think I could have made it worse if I used Snow Patrol.....
I will need to experiment with that....

The night has a very bright moon... so I thought I would go for a walk and experiment with the camera on some long exposures... I learnt a thing or two.

In our house we have a skylight in the kitchen....

Sun comes streaming through there even as it is getting quite dark in the rest of the house.

My post-work challenge this afternoon was to see if the lighting could work for portraity stuff.

Your can see that almost every attempt I made was of me out of focus!

Eleven, Seven, Eleven seems like it should be a very important date... it has that ring to it!
Did get lots of work done today before coming home to take fuzzy photos... maybe that is enough!

Not quite right

Ever wake up in the morning and think that things are not quite right.
That maybe there is some flaw in the way you are seeing things?

Subversive....

There is something a little subversive about taking a very expensive camera and getting a piece of old aluminium can on the front with a pin hole through it to use as a lens...

I am not pretending there is anything artistic in the result...  just a fun little experiment...

Truth

Here is a photo that was obviously taken before we had all the flooding rain here in Queensland.  The crops are dead and the ground is cracked.

Alternatively it was taken a few days ago, post rain, after floods and is just a harvested field.
Would you believe that I am nerdy enough that I am writing a "lecture" on photography as philosophy, based on the fact that if the past exists nowhere but in the memories of people and in records that we have... and that the records influence our memories.... then a photo can create a truth that may or may not ever have existed....  I doubt if I will ever present it to anyone, but my internal geekometer will be off the dial.

this will mostly be a photo blog...
a way of showing some people who I care about what is going on in my life.
