One light among billions

A field day with the Toowoomba Photographic Society a couple of months ago.

About 30km outside Toowoomba (which is the light you can see on the horizon there.

30 second exposure, wide open, wide angle lens, and a good powerful flashlight.

Windy at Stanley

On top of a rock formation called, The Nut.
Yeah... a little bit of wind around!

Not to be opened if squeamish....

A couple of weeks ago Ruth was doing her morning walk, and phoned me to come and photograph something.

The something turned out to be a python eating a possum...
Not something you see every day.

Photos straight out of the camera.... they might need a touch of sharpening before I subject the camera club people to them....

Gone...

Misty, rainy day today, and no crossfit early this morning... so went for a drive to take some photos.

The idea for this one was borrowed from one of my friends at TPS.
It is still not exactly what was in my head, but close...

New Camera!! - Nikon D750

So, used it to take a photo of the nearest available subject....
One of our cats, doing something she should not have been doing!

It is the full frame Nikon D750.  (the camera - not the cat).
So far feels great.  Some little things that I will need to get used to... and I am back down to just 3, prime lenses after the change to full frame, a 20, 50 and 85mm.
Looking forward to understanding it, and getting some shots with it!

Found: Invisible Man photograph.

Going through a box of old photos that I found... and happened to come across this interesting one, the back has a signature something like "H.G.Wells"... I think that what other people considered to be a work of fiction, was more of a biography!

It was book week last week, so given that Zak has been doing a lot of classic science fiction lately, he decided on the invisible man.  This was the result.

Photogeeking:  4 exposures.  2 flashes.  One giving light to the room, the other lighting from the stove.  One exposure for the background, one for Zak, one for the saucepan (with the handle) and a last, unlit one for the flame of the gas burner... put together in photoshop with a Nik plugin to make it look like a wetplate camera.

Lake Tepako

There are  couple of nasty spots on my camera sensor that I will need to clean up when I work on the photos....

View from my hotel room....

a little different this time.
We are vacationing in New Zealand.
For anyone who has a chance to do it, I recommend it whole heartedly!!

This was the view from inside the motel in Wanaka in the South Island.

Of course - when i actually took the time to go down to Lake Wanaka and take a photo or two.... this was the result.....  An amazingly picturesque place.

Early Christmas Present

So, the kayaking that we did a few weeks ago was a test run to see if the boys would like a Christmas present we had chosen..

So we headed out on the local dam again for a lovely paddle with our own kayaks this time.
Huge fun... I can see some paddle adventures at dawn coming up soon.

Oh.... and there were seaweed fights!

Laser Skirmish

A fun afternoon out in the bush playing laser Skirmish.
As you can tell from our Cammo gear - we all took it very seriously!

Shot in China

Blythe and Russell, shot while shooting in China.
The whole pool hall was stinking hot... people taking turns standing in front of the struggling airconditioner.

I did not see Fast Eddie the pool shark, anywhere!

Water

Xan jumping out of the surf.
If you like we can pretend that I just captured this in real life, rather than asking him to flick out of the water half a dozen times.... that would make it a lot cooler!!!

We spent the weekend at Noosa.  Awesome beach, great family time.  Ruth got to do lots of relaxing, the boys and I got to do lots of swimming.

Back home and Christmas lights

The view from my front door just after sunset....
Through the Christmas lights....
We are joining in with the neighbourhood lighting just a little more each year...  It all looks very festive!

Clothesline Star Trails Of Unusual (size)

Ok weird title, I admit it....
but it goes with the weird photo.

Shot with the camera open for about half an hour under the clothes line... a tiny bit of playing with the colour and out  comes this....

(oh and the title was attempting to be ROUSs, but it just missed hopelessly... {and if you are the person who the title was really directed at, then I know that you already know what an ROUS is... [and if you do not, you need to read / watch one of the all time classics.....]} maybe I should stop trying to do multiple messages in my titles.....)
